A detailed general overview of Drugs (Including Alcohol & Marijuana*) and the effects and consequences of their use. Marijuana class is very similar but has additional focus on Marijuana.

Students will learn about the different types of drugs and how they affect the human body. They learn of specific problems that being under the influence create and then what consequences follow such actions. Specific course topics include introduction to the alcohol/drug epidemic. Alcohol & Drugs in the workplace, our lives and the highway, the history of Alcohol and Drugs, the traffic safety problems, a brief review of Texas laws referring to Alcohol and Drugs, DWI, effects of alcohol/drugs on the human brain and body, alcohol/drugs and driving task abilities, chemical dependency, symptoms of dependency, addiction, the stages of addiction, sources of assistance, costs of Alcohol and Drug use on society and specific content on Alcohol, Cocaine, Marijuana, Opiates/Heroin, Meth and prescription abuse. Students will learn how simply getting behind the wheel with any substance in our blood can affect our abilities to safely drive a vehicle, to make sound rational and timely decisions and the ability to know when we are not ok to drive or perform any type of activity because of the condition of our brain function. And how little it takes to affect the average person and how long it actually takes to remove alcohol and or substances from our blood.

PLEASE NOTE: Some Material & Videos may include Graphic Images and/or Offensive Language and may be troubling to some students.

Completed in one day, 8 hour** class with an option for a break for lunch. Other Lunch/Break options may be available depending on class size and other factors.

Certificate is awarded at successful completion of course.

* Due to the similarity in the base course concerning alcohol and drugs,  AOD & Marijuana class could be combined if there are scheduling issues around Holidays or other conflicts.  The additional material on Marijuana can be added and could potentially extend the duration of the class, however it would help avoid a cancellation and/or reschedule.

** Additional length  classes may be available if needed from out of state or counties outside of the Houston area. Ask for details on additional length course (12 hour or other plans) when calling for information on the AOD class.  The expanded course study includes (but not limited to) short & long term Alcohol use and the medical complications it may cause,  additional focus on Marijuana, including the recent legalization of cannabis in some states and how those states have adjusted to issues that followed and good decision-making skills including the steps of change. These expanded classes are scheduled on an "as needed" basis only and may be part of a Level I or Level II , an Individual Development plan or an IOP. These may require pre-payment or down payment to schedule.

.

 PLEASE NOTE:

If this class does not have students registered, we may use this time frame for other similar 8 hour awareness classes. Please ask about our Marijuana or other specific classes if you do not see one scheduled.
